Only one of the most absorbent and sanitary sponge materials available. The technical name is Polyvinyl Acitate, but basically it is a synthetic sea sponge. This makes it ideal for absorption purposes and perfect to be used as a mop head or cleaning and drying rag. It is a high tech plastic that was designed in a laboratory with intentions on mimicking the make-up of natural sponges. Depending upon application PVA products may have larger or smaller pores, but all of them are very good at absorbing by nature. They not only soak up large volumes of liquid, but can also do so in a short amount of time. This means that when compared to standard sponge material, PVA will absorb more liquid faster. Elasticity and tensile strength properties help provide durability and allow the material to last much longer than other materials. The texture of PVA is much more dense than standard sponge material, and it will often have a smooth feel to it. It is also non-linting and static-free.
When dry, PVA will become rigid. It is meant to be stored in this manner, which makes it a sanitary sponge material because it dries hard quickly so bacteria and mildew can't grow. It will absorb up to 12 times it's weight and holds it in to prevent dripping. This material is washable and can be used with many kinds of chemicals without adverse effects. It will hold it's shape for life and will last a long time due to the dense material and bonded strength. Chemical resistance included acids, bases, and organic solvents. You can burn it without releasing toxic gases, and it can be molded into almost any shape. Very durable and long lasting, PVA material even has resistance to heat up to 176 degrees when wet.
All of these properties make PVA and ideal cleaning tool material. PVA Drying cloths, PVA Sponges and PVA Mops take advantage of the absorption power, and because this material is so durable, you get long lasting, commercial grade tools when you use a high quality PVA material to manufacture them.
